Challenging a Cop to a Fight Is a Bad Idea

18-year-old Half Moon Bay man charged with allegedly being drunk in public.

Sheriff's deputies in Half Moon Bay arrested an 18-year-old man on Saturday night for allegedly being drunk in public and challenging an officer to a fight.

A San Mateo County Sheriff's deputy was called to 40 Stone Pine Road on a noise complaint around 11:45 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.

Around 20 people who had gathered in the street were yelling and making noise, according to reports. The crowd dispersed when the deputy arrived.

One suspect, later identified as Luis Aguilar, refused to leave, according to the sheriff's office.

Aguilar allegedly had slurred speech, was having difficulty standing and smelled of alcohol, according to the sheriff's office.

When the deputy instructed Aguilar to leave the area, the suspect allegedly challenged the officer to a physical fight.

Aguilar was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and taken to San Mateo County Jail.
