Chick-fil-A Coming to Novato

Controversial chain buys site in Marin.

Welcome to the Bay Area, Chick-Fil-A. Hope the reception is worth it.

The fried-chicken chain, in the headlines for its CEO's opposition to same-sex marriage, is opening up a location in Novato, and will also open up stores in Walnut Creek and in Mountain View, according to reports.

The company paid $2.7 million for the 0.7-acre site in Novato on July 25, according to the Marin Independent Journal.

Mayor Ed Lee, in reaction to the furor over the company's stance on LGBT issues, said that the chain was not welcome in San Francisco, according to reports.

Supporters of the chain and of CEO Dan Cathy's statements flocked to restaurants to voice their support.

The Walnut Creek restaurant is slated to open next month. The only other Bay Area location is in Fairfield, the newspaper reported.

No word on when the Novato restaurant may be constructed or open for business.
