Children’s Hospital Oakland has received its largest private donation in the history of the institution.

Children's Hospital and University of California at San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital will split a $100 million gift in the hopes of improving their research program and attracting top pediatricians.

The donation, announced on Tuesday, comes from Lynne and Marc Benioff and is the second big gift the couple has given to support the two hospitals, which merged earlier this year.

Children’s Hospital was renamed UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland in recognition of the institutions partnership. UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital was renamed UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco.

Marc Benioff is the founder and CEO of Salesforce.com, a cloud computing company. His wife, Lynne, is a philanthropist and member of the UCSF board of directors.

The money will be used to improve the programs, research and patient care at the two hospitals, as well as attract new pediatric talent to the Bay area, hospital leaders said in a statement.

"We have been deeply inspired by the incredible kids, doctors, researchers, and administrators at both UCSF and Children's Hospital Oakland," said Lynne and Marc Benioff in a press release. "We feel extremely fortunate to have this opportunity to support the best children's hospitals in the world."

In February of 2015, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco plans to open a 289-bed integrated hospital complex for children, women and cancer patients at UCSF Mission Bay.

Following this expansion, the two institutions will be one of the top ten largest children’s health care providers in the country.  The two hospitals will be UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals.

“This donation ensures we can continue to advance the most innovative clinical care within the new hospital,” Mark Laret, CEO of UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco, said in a news release.  “We are building a world-class pediatric facility that puts the needs of our patients and their families at the forefront."
