Chris Brown Returns to San Jose Following January Nightclub Shooting

Singer Chris Brown is scheduled to perform a concert at the SAP Center on Friday (March 6), less than two months after a shooting at a San Jose nightclub where he appeared as a party host.

SAP Center spokesperson Jim Sparaco would not disclose to NBC Bay Area whether extra security measures would be taken for the Brown show, but said management works closely with local agencies, including the San Jose Police Department, to develop appropriate security measures for events at the venue.

"SAP Center has a history of hosting safe and successful events and will continue to make the necessary preparations to maintain a high level of security," he said.

Five people were shot at Fiesta Nightclub around 1 a.m. on January 11 during a "Capricorn Bash" hosted by Brown. He was performing his hit "Loyal" when shots were fired in the crowd. The victims were all treated for non-life threatening injuries at a hospital and survived.

Four days later, Brown's probation from his 2009 assault case on ex-girlfriend Rihanna was revoked in Los Angeles Superior Court as a result of the San Jose incident. He had been ordered by probation officials in December not to travel outside Los Angeles without permission, but made the Northern California appearance in January without informing them of his plans, a move for which his lawyer Mark Geragos later claimed responsibility.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin is scheduled to receive an update on Brown from probation officials at a March 20 hearing.

San Jose Police and Alcohol Beverage Control suspended Fiesta Nightclub's entertainment and liquor licenses until March 16 following the Jan. 11 incident. The ABC will keep Fiesta on probation for two years.

It is unclear whether Fiesta will reopen. A Facebook page for the venue appears to have been merged with a food truck named Fiesta and the website no longer directs to a page that represents the business.
