One of San Francisco's most beloved icons is getting a bit pricier.
The City's famed cable cars will become more expensive to ride starting next month.
The fares will jump $1 to $6 starting July 1. It marks the first spike in cable car fares since the system increased ticket prices in 2005 from $3.
San Francisco is also raising the fine for evading fares starting next month from $25 to $100. The moves are part of a city plan to balance the budget of its transit agency over the next two years.
