Coast Guard: Boaters, Beachgoers Should Use Caution Over Colombus Day Weekend

The United States Coast Guard is reminding boaters and beachgoers to use cause caution in and around the water during the Columbus Day weekend.

The Coast Guard is asking swimmers to be especially cautious of rip currents and know to identify and escape them.

The Coast Guard is reminding the public of several safety tips including staying informed of weather conditions, wearing life jackets while on the water, filing a float plan with friends or family before heading out on the water, having a working VHF-FM radio aboard a boat, maintaining the proper safety equipment, not boating under the influence of alcohol or other controlled substances and keeping children informed of water safety.
