Police blocked off a park in downtown Concord for about two hours Monday evening before determining a suspicious package was just a bag of coffee grounds, according to a police lieutenant.
A passerby reported the package at about 3:45 p.m. in the Todos Santos Plaza, Lt. Garrett Voerge said.
Responding officers agreed the package, which was a large bag wrapped in foil and duct tape, merited investigation, Voerge said.
Members of the Walnut Creek bomb squad were called to assist with the investigation, and they determined the package was a bag of coffee grounds.
The area was cleared and reopened at about 6 p.m., Voerge said.
He said the package's context concerned police.
"The combination of it being wrapped in duct tape and left in a park was something we weren't going to take lightly," he said.
