3-Alarm Fire Displaces 29 People, Render 12 Apartments Uninhabitable in Antioch

A three-alarm fire that ripped through an apartment complex in Antioch Wednesday morning displaced 29 residents, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Fire Inspector Steve Aubert estimated the damage at around $950,000.

The fire was reported just after 8:15 a.m. at the Delta Pines Apartment complex on Sycamore Drive.

Aubert said the two-story conjoined units share attic space and the fire quickly spread from one set of apartments to the next. The first call came in as someone spotting flames from a balcony, he said. Investigators are still trying to pinpoint an origin and cause.

A total of 32 units were evacuated.

Kevin Lynn was one of the people now left without a place to sleep.

"I just woke up to fire," Lynn said. "I knew I couldn't fight it, I just started banging on doors. I lost everything."

No cause for the fire has been identified and Aubert said no injuries were reported.
