Three Pacifica schools were briefly put on lockdown Wednesday morning when a man opened fire on a pregnant woman, who neighbors described as his ex-girlfriend, police said.
Officers responded to reports of a gunshot and victim screaming at 8:11 a.m. on the 1000 block of Terra Nova Boulevard. They found a 25-year-old Pacifica woman, identified as Marissa Johnson, with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police have identified Ricardo Colindres, a 25-year-old transient who is still at large, as a suspect in the incident.
Johnson was transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to police Capt. Joe Spanheimer. Doctors weighed an emergency surgery to deliver her baby, but decided against it because she is in stable condition, he said.
Both Johnson and her unborn child are expected to survive, according to police.
Colindres allegedly shot Johnson at the Casa Pacifica Apartments, a senior housing complex where she works as a secretary, Spanheimer said.
Ruth Cooper, a neighbor, said she was woken by the crack of the gunshot.

"She attempted to take him to court because he damaged her car," she said.
Pacifica police would not confirm a possible motive behind the shooting.
"By the time police arrived, she was on a bench, bleeding," Cooper continued.
Colindres is described to be about 5’5” tall, 125 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The gunman was last seen in a 2003 Silver Toyota Camry with a California license plate with the number 6CGN644.
One alert Casa Pacifica Apartments resident is being credited with giving police a critical clue about Colindres.
"One of our neighbors was brave enough to follow the guy" and provide police with license plate information, Cooper said.
Terra Nova High School at 1450 Terra Nova Blvd., Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School at 1427 Palmetto Ave. and Ortega Elementary School at 1283 Terra Nova Blvd. were placed on "secure campus" mode, Pacifica police wrote on Twitter at about 10:30 a.m. The lockdown was lifted around 11:30 a.m., police said.
People are asked not to approach Colindres and instead call police because he is considered armed and dangerous. People with information can call the Pacifica Police Department at 650-738-7314 or dial 911.
