SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Prosecutors say the man charged with killing two San Francisco jewelry store clerks and critically wounding the shop owner believed he had been overcharged.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Assistant District Attorney Scot Clark told a judge during 23-year-old Barry White's first court appearance on Tuesday that White returned to the store to dispute a purchase he made in May. Clark said White thought the item did not have as many grams of precious metal as advertised, and he had overpaid by about $300.
White is accused of shooting Hung and 51-year-old store clerk Lina Lim on Friday.
Clark said White cut another clerk, 35-year-old Khin Min, from ear to ear with a knife. Min and Lim died.
White did not enter a plea. His attorney, Steve Taxman, said the charges were only allegations.
