Firefighters rescued a man stranded in a ravine at Alum Rock Park, a fire department spokesman said.
A report of a stranded hiker came in at about 11:30 a.m., San Jose fire Capt. Charles Rangel said. The man is stuck down a 70-foot ravine, he said.
A Cal Fire helicopter took off just after 2:30 p.m. to rescue the hiker, Rangel said.
"They're making their way over to the stranded person and they're going to lower a firefighter down to that person," he said.
It hasn't yet been determined whether the hiker will be assisted back up the ravine or hoisted up to the helicopter in a long-line rescue, he said.
