Investigators believe the BMW caught on fire after crashing into a tree.

A person was found dead in a BMW that crashed and caught on fire in Mountain View early Friday morning, according to police.

Officers found the victim, who has not yet been identified, shortly before 1 a.m. in a 2007 BMW on eastbound Central Expressway just east of Bernardo Avenue, according to police.

The victim was found inside the car after the fire was extinguished. The Mountain View Voice reported the victim was burned so badly, police could not immediately identify the sex of the driver.

Investigators believe the BMW caught on fire after crashing into a tree.
