Dead Dog Found Tethered to Crate in East Bay Canal

Animal officials in the East Bay are reaching out to the public in hopes of learning more about a dead dog that was found in a canal tethered to a crate.

The dog, which was described as a roughly 15-pound brown terrier, was discovered floating in the Contra Costa Canal near Medburn Street Wednesday evening, according to Contra Costa Animal Services.

The crate that the dog was tethered to was wrapped with a green nylon cover, according to Contra Costa Animal Services.

"This is a very sad and unfortunate turn of events, naturally our first concern is being able to identify this dog's owners so we can notify them that we have found their pet deceased," CCAS Captain Jane Andreotti said in a statement. "We would also like to learn as much as we can to determine the course of events leading up to the dog's death."

Anyone with information about the dog, its owners or the case is asked to email asdweb@asd.cccounty.us.
