Dear Bank Robber: Beware of Exploding Dye Pack!

A man robbed a Westamerica Bank branch in Concord on Friday afternoon, but dropped the money when a dye pack exploded on him, police Cpl. Kerry Cerletti said today.

At about 4:45 p.m. the alleged robber walked into the bank at 2400 Willow Pass Road, threatened to kill a bank teller and demanded money, Cerletti said.

The teller gave the robber money from the register along with a dye pack and the man left the bank.

As he was walking toward the Safeway at 2600 Willow Pass Road, the dye pack exploded and he dropped the money and ran.

The suspect was seen getting into a white, mid-1990s four-door Honda with tinted rear windows that was waiting for him in the Safeway parking lot. Police did not have any description of the driver of the car, Cerletti said.

The car was last seen fleeing northbound on Port Chicago Highway.

The suspect was described as a man between 25 and 30 years old with a slender build. He was wearing a gray beanie cap and dark clothing.
