“Lauren” of San Jose, Who Left Note on Cruiser in Honor of Slain Officer, ID'd

Denver police have been looking for “Lauren” from San Jose. And it looks like they finally might have an answer. She came foward after her dad recognized her handwriting posted on the police department's Facebook post.

Lauren wasn't a suspect. And she didn’t commit any crime.

In fact, just the opposite. She had done something kind, and officers wanted to thank her.

“Lauren”, later identified as Lauren Talbert, had scribbled a note on a lined piece of paper a couple of weeks ago, and left it on a police cruiser driven by a Denver police lieutenant, according to the police department’s Facebook page posted on April 19.

The letter reads: "Dear officer, I'm from San Jose, CA, and we lost an asset to an amazing team last week. Thank you for risking your life every day for my safety. You are important and I am super thankful for you. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and God Bless. -- Lauren." The other side of the ripped piece of paper, simply said “Thank you!!”

The “asset” Lauren was referring to was San Jose Police Officer Michael Johnson, who was shot and killed March 25 while responding to a call for a possibly despondent man who opened fire on officers from his balcony as they approached him.

In an interview Wednesday night from Denver, where the former San Jose resident lives, Talbert said something just overcame her and she realized she should "just say something" regarding the slain officers. "I said a prayer for him and drove away."

Police in Denver were so touched by the note that they have asked surrounding agencies as well as the San Jose Police Department to help them find "Lauren" so they can thank her for her kind words.

Lauren's father, Jon Talbert, posted on Facebook Wednesday, hopped on Facebook too to tell the world it was his daughter who had left the note.

"Something worth hitting SHARE!!!" Jon Talbert wrote. "One of the sweetest random acts of kindness. AND... it hits so close to home!!!" This is my daughter Lauren who left this note (for Denver Police officers) after the death of SJPD Michael Johnson. Even the smallest gesture of kindness has a significant ripple effect of blessing!! Do me a favor and hit SHARE and spread the lovin!!!!"
