Deputy in Campbell Saves Newborn

A Santa Clara County sheriff's deputy is getting hero status Monday after he came to the rescue of a  17-day-old infant who stopped breathing.

This happened around 7 a.m.   The newborn's mom and grandmother were rushing to a emergency room and noticed a patrol car at a coffee shop on Bascom Avenue, so they pulled in and screamed for help.

Deputies Rick Chaeff and Mike Laddy ran to their rescue and were able to resuscitate the baby using CPR.

Chaeff is an expert in CPR and that proved to be a life-saving thing.  It took several tries and several positions to get air inside the baby's blocked airway.

Once she was breathing again, she was taken by ambulance to  Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where she is in stable condition.
