Despite Security Snafu at Customs, Gifts Will Reach Needy Kids

Hundreds of gifts for needy children will reach the Family Giving Tree's warehouse in Menlo Park after a security snafu at the Port of Oakland that held the presents at the port.

The shipment that was stuck at the port contained 900 scooters and skateboards. A spokesperson for the Family Giving Tree said the charity's container was chosen at random for extra screening.

Scared that the toys would not reach the children in time for Christmas, the organization reached out to whoever they could.

Out of desperation last night, Jennifer Cullenbine, a co-creator of the nonprofit, said they even sent a letter to President Obama.

On Tuesday morning they got their Christmas miracle. The Port of Oakland announced they would start the process to deliver toys to the Family Giving Tree.
