Diaper Bag-Stealing Man Arrested in San Francisco

Man allegedly stole a diaper bag from the Hall of Justice

A San Francisco man who allegedly stole an unattended diaper bag from the Hall of Justice last week has been identified and arrested, police said.

At about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the bag was advertently left by a woman after she went through security at the building at 850 Bryant St., police said.

The woman was the foster mother of an infant who made headlines back in December when two patrol officers performed CPR to revive him and drove him to the hospital themselves, saving his life.

The boy's biological mother, Nneka Nash, had just given birth to the boy and abandoned him, but was found a short time later and arrested forchild cruelty.

The foster mother and the baby, called Baby Nash, were at the Hall of Justice for an appointment, police said.

Investigators reviewed video surveillance and booking photos and were able to identify 59-year-old Daniel Ripper as the suspected diaper bag thief, police said.

Officers arrested Ripper at a residential hotel in the 1000 block of Mission Street on Friday morning.

Ripper was arrested for theft, possession of stolen property and probation violation.
