Downtown San Jose Gunfire Has Business Owners on Edge

In another sign of growing safety issues in downtown San Jose, Police were called to a shooting at the corner of Santa Clara and 2nd St. about 9 p.m. Tuesday night. Two bullets hit the Western Dental Building at 48 E. Santa Clara. Witnesses in the vicinity said they heard as many as six shots.

Wednesday, neighborhood business owners told NBC Bay Area they are afraid to go work. Some said shooting is just the latest in a string of violent incidents.

“We’ve been here three and a half months. I’ve had to go on lock down a couple of times just to protect myself and my customers,” said Cindy Bozarth, manager of the Garlic Bread restaurant on the same block as the shooting. “There’s not much I can do but call the police and have them do an intimidation walk.”

Police said they didn’t find anyone with injuries after Tuesday night’s shooting, and they said, they don’t have any information on possible suspects.
