Dozens Without Hot Water For Fifth-Straight Day at San Jose Apartment Complex

Dozens of residents at a San Jose apartment complex are coping without hot water for the fifth-straight day Sunday.

A big tree fell across the road near the complex Tuesday afternoon, knocking out gas and water service to the residents of Menclair Apartments. Around that time, heavy winds caused downed trees in the Bay Area.

Residents were furious Sunday afternoon.

This huge tree was removed right away and crews have been working on repairs. But according to a letter apartment managers gave to residents, the gas service cannot be turned back on until the city cant inspect the work. And that will not happen until early next week.

That means no hot water for the people who live there, a situation that is especially tough on families.

"I have three kids, and it's really hard to boil enough water and then take it upstairs," resident Raul Perez said.

Perez said other than the letter, management has not given him a clear idea of when the hot water will return, forcing some residents to take showers at gyms or friends' houses. After the tree fell, water service was also cut off, but that has since been turned back on--cold water at least.

The manager Sunday declined to comment.
