An early morning collision involving a big rig closed four eastbound lanes of state Highway 4 near unincorporated Bay Point in Contra Costa County Saturday.
The incident was first reported at 4:19 a.m. on Highway 4 west of Bailey Road.
A Toyota Corolla ran out of gas and the driver, a 28-year-old woman from Patterson, stopped in the roadway without the hazard lights activated.
A truck hauling a trailer full of petroleum coke veered left, colliding with the rear end the Corolla, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, a 49-year-old Pittsburg resident, lost control of the truck as it overturned onto its left side. The truck spilled its load in the roadway and came to rest blocking four lanes of traffic, according to the
CHP.
The truck driver suffered moderate injuries, including road rash to the left side of his torso. At least one party was transported to the hospital, according to the CHP.
A Sig-alert was issued around 4:30 a.m. and was cancelled at 8:27 a.m. after the petroleum coke had been removed from the roadway.
