Driver Rear-Ends SJPD Patrol Car, Stopped by Security Guard

A driver rear-ended a San Jose patrol car on Friday morning, and ended up being arrested with the help of a security guard after he tried to run away.

Sgt. Heather Randol said the crash was reported at 5:45 a.m. in front of a Hyatt at San Carlos Street and Almaden Boulevard.

Randol said the officer had stopped at a red light when the driver smashed into the patrol car "at a high rate of speed."

The driver tried to run, but was stopped by a security guard from a nearby business.

Police took the driver into custody. Both the officer and driver sustained minor injuries and were both transported to a local area hospital. When the driver is released from the hospital, police said he will be booked on felony hit-and-run charges.
