Fairfield police responded to a vehicle in a canal Monday and were able to rescue the driver.

Police believe the man driving a silver minivan had a medical issue that caused him to lose control of the vehicle at Peabody Road and Joseph Gerevas Drive. Rescuers pulled the man out of the van, and he was transported to a hospital.

    The man's condition was unknown.

Police did not say whether there were other occupants in the van.

    No further details were available.
