A suspected drug dealer and a Concord detective who was attempting to apprehend him were both hit by a vehicle and injured Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Special investigations detectives conducted an undercover narcotics operation near a T.J. Maxx store on Clayton road at around 5:30 p.m., according to the Concord Police Department.

Detectives reportedly bought drugs from a suspect who fled on foot when an arrest was attempted.

The suspect ran across Clayton Road and was hit by a vehicle traveling east, police reported.

A detective in pursuit of the suspect was also hit, sustaining minor injuries.

The suspect, whose identity was not released due to an ongoing police investigation, was taken to John Muir Medical Center with serious head and neck injuries.

He was reported to be in critical but stable condition.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured, according to police.
