Authorities say the body of a man has been found on a beach a day after his car was found burned about three miles away.

Monterey County Sheriff's Sgt. Archie Warren says the body of Damien Lebeau washed up on the beach at Fort Ord Dunes State Beach around 7 a.m. Friday.

Investigators say on Thursday an older-model Mercedes belonging to the 55-year-old Aptos man was found torched in nearby Seaside.

Several agencies are involved in the investigation because Lebeau's car was found in Seaside, while his body was recovered in State Parks area. Monterey County authorities are conducting the autopsy and Santa Cruz County deputies took the missing person report.
