Drought Prompts Bay Area Cities to Shut Off Water at Parks

California's historic drought has prompted several Bay Area cities to turn off the water at parks this summer.

In Campbell, where temperatures reached mid-90s on Monday, parents flocked to Jack Fischer Park hoping to have their kids cool off in the playground fountains. Visitors found that the water has been shut off.

In San Jose, city crews turned off the fountain at Lincoln Glen Park.

"It's a bummer, but I totally understand the need to conserve where we can," San Jose-resident Angela Curtiss said.

In Los Gatos, the city council voted to shut off water at its downtown mini geysers even though it uses recycled water.

Los Gatos Public Works Director Matt Morley said the savings may not be huge, but the dry fountain at a prominent park sends a strong conservation message that every drop counts.
