Drugs, Prostitution May Lead Downtown San Jose Bar to Lose License

El Tarasco in downtown San Jose may lose its liquor license over alleged drug use and prostitution, according to reports.

San Jose Inside reports the state Alcoholic Beverage Control filed formal complaints against the bar in May. City Councilman Sam Liccardo and residents report that the bar has caused problems and "made life miserable" for the neighborhood.

In the two years since a bar worker was "gunned down" outside the premises, there have been increasing "disturbing behavior," including over 100 911 calls over the past two months, according to the report.

Oddly, there appears to be little sense of urgency: an ABC hearing that might have shut the place down was delayed from this week to early November, according to San Jose Inside.

Liccardo in response is trying to remove the bar's special building permit via the city route.
