Drunk Driver Suspected of Injuring Teen

A midnight walk left a 15-year-old seriously hurt.

A Novato man was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving after he allegedly struck and injured a 15-year-old pedestrian early this morning,  police said.

Petaluma police dispatchers received multiple calls about the collision at the intersection of East Washington Street and Edith Street at  12:38 a.m.

The pedestrian was crossing a crosswalk on East Washington Street and while most cars had stopped for him, one vehicle did not.

That vehicle, traveling west in the right lane, struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk, causing major injuries.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

After interviewing the driver, identified by police as 20-year-old Wesley Pickford, police said that he had alcohol on his breath.

Pickford admitted to drinking alcohol, police said, and tests showed he had a blood alcohol level of .15 percent, almost twice the legal  limit of .08 percent.

Pickford was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and booked into Sonoma County Jail. His bail was set at $30,000.
