Thick Smoke, Heavy Fire Engulf East Bay Home

Firefighters responded to a duplex puffing heavy smoke in the Oakland Hills on Monday evening.

The fire was reported in the 3300 block of Rubin Drive, close to Holy Names University, around 6 p.m., according to fire department officials.

Initial reports indicated that a woman was inside the unit, but truth revealed that no one was inside and a dog was safely outside in the yard, fire officials said.

The blaze was controlled in roughly 30 minutes, according to fire officials. No injuries were reported.
