Regular folks get their hands on the iPad Saturday and if the reviews prove true, they will not be disappointed.

Almost all of the reviews were glowingly positive.

"You can’t sit next to it and not want it," argues David Carr of the New York Times who's been having some tender moments in the bedroom with his iPad.

Other reviewers generally agree that it fits somewhere between a laptop and a smartphone, and works best as something for kicking back to read or watch or play a game, and not as a replacement for any existing product category.

They also generally agree that what it does do it does quite well, with a clean interface, long battery life and cool, quiet operation more suited to laps than laptops actually are.

As for what competitors, rumored to include Microsoft and Google, come up with? Or what developers invent for the interactive applications for the future? All that still remains to be seen.

Jackson West is quite happy with his hackintoshed netbook, thank you very much.
