BART Will Halt 1 Minute for ShakeOut

The statewide earthquake preparedness drill, The Great California ShakeOut, BART will stop all trains for about one minute on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 10:21 a.m.

(The date's 10/20, but the time is 10:21? Really? Anyway...)

The ShakeOut is the largest earthquake drill on the planet, according to a BART release.

BART's Earthquake Safety Program includes retrofitting 74 miles of track, 34 stations and the Transbay Tube to withstand the maximum credible earthquake.

There are hundreds of ways to participate in ShakeOut, with an easy dropdown locator of participants here. If you can't get out and shake it with the rest of the state, you can play along with Facebook and Twitter, too.
