East Bay Math Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Having Sex with Student

Man allegedly gave a full confession to police.

Math Teacher Arrested on Student Sex Charges

Andrew Cottrell's bail is set at $975,000.

An East Bay middle school teacher was arrested Friday on seventeen counts of alleged unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

Andrew Bruce Cottrell, 41,  was arrested at Diablo View Middle School in Clayton, where he teaches math and science. Walnut Creek Police said Cottrell gave a full confession.

Cottrell was booked into Martinez Detention Facility on the following:

  • Six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under 16 years old
  • Two counts of lewd acts with a victim 14 or 15 years old
  • Nine counts of oral copulatioin with a victim under 16 years old

Police also searched Cottrell's Walnut Creek house Friday. His bail is set at $975,000.
