Fremont city leaders are asking East Bay Regional Parks to consider a hiker's fee for Mission Peak.
People who live near the popular trail said the proposed fee would help keep the crowds down. Those in opposition said the fee would keep out people who cannot afford to pay.
Park officials will consider the idea at its next meeting. The amount of the fee has not been determined.
If approved, Mission Peak would become the first park in the district to have a hiker's fee.
