Clean Up Begins After Sacramento County Grass Fire Destroys Homes, Displaces Residents

Families have started cleaning up a Sacramento County neighborhood, after a raging grass fire burned down several homes on Thursday.

Firefighters estimate at least seven homes were destroyed and six were damaged by the blaze in the mobile home park.

What started as a roadside fire quickly spread to the Korth's Pirates Lair Marina neighborhood. The fire erupted at 4:15 p.m. in Isleton, north of Antioch and east of Fairfield.

"We had a lot of antiques, a lot of valuable stuff. It’s gone," resident Mel Gann said.

Families of the tight-knit community are being forced to find another place to live for the time being.

Witnesses said they saw a propane explosion that blew a piece of building, hundreds of feet away from the blaze.

"Pretty soon the eucalyptus trees went off like match heads," said Don Shanks, who lives in the area. "It started raining fire. We just had to get out of there."

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.
