A Richmond man was arrested Friday in connection with a purse snatching after family members recognized his picture in surveillance footage, El Cerrito police said.

Surveillance cameras from a nearby business captured images of the suspect.

Police said the robbery happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon on the 400 block of Kearney Street.

Police said that's when the suspect grabbed the woman's purse and tried to take off, but not before the victim pulled out a pot she had just purchased and beat the suspect in the upper body.

A relative brought the suspect, identified as 23-year-old John Millohollin, to police. The case has been referred to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
