Evacuation Order Lifted in Pittsburg After Railcar Leak Determined to Be Lubricating Oil

An evacuation order in Pittsburg was lifted late Wednesday after a railcar leak initially thought to be flammable propane turned out to be lubricating oil, fire officials said.

Six homes on Warren Way were evacuated after the suspected propane leak was reported around 5:15 p.m. at the Union Pacific Railroad Yard on North Parkside Drive, west of Railroad Avenue.

A 30,000-gallon propane tank car showed signs of a leak, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Marshal Robert Marshall said.

No injuries were reported.

Pittsburg police and Contra Costa County hazardous materials crews also responded to the scene.
