Event Guide: America's Cup

Fleet Week isn't just for the boys -- and girls -- in our armed forces anymore.

Wind-powered vessels will also grace the Bay all week, as the America's Cup World Series returns to the waters near the Marina.

America's Cup racing returns to the Marina, with races all week until Sunday, according to event officials.

All the action takes place in front of Yacht Road near the St. Francis Yacht Club in front of Marina Green. Find bleachers there -- but find reception and hospitality areas on Little Marina Green, right off of Marina Boulevard, according to organizers.

A morning show takes off from the docks each day at 11 a.m. until Sunday, the last day of competition. Semifinal racing takes place at 4:50 p.m. Saturday and at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, according to the event schedule.

The catamarans of America's Cup will not try to compete with the ships and the Blue Angels of Fleet Week, but attendees can enjoy both. Not bad, eh?

How to get there? Anything, just as long as it's not a car.

City officials heartily recommend Muni, taxis, walking or biking to the event.

The 30-Stockton, 45-Union and 22-Columbus buses are all Muni options from downtown, which is accessible via BART at the Powell or Montgomery Street stations.

"Additional transit, biking and taxi options will be made available at various events, including extra bus shuttles on Market Street, a new pilot service on The Embarcadero, more buses and trains on most direct routes to and from special events, free bike valets, additional signage for cyclists and pedestrians, bike rentals are available throughout the city and 100 additional taxi will be made available with additional taxi zones at key events," according to the office of Mayor Ed Lee.
