Fairfield Brush Fire Stopped Feet From Row of Homes

The Fairfield Fire Department and Cal Fire are mopping up after a 15-acre, 3-alarm vegetation fire in north Fairfield Tuesday afternoon was knocked down a few feet from a row of homes.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m. in the Vista Grande and Waterman Boulevard area of northern Fairfield west of Interstate Highway 80.

City of Fairfield spokeswoman Gale Spears said the fire started behind the Waterman water treatment plant, and mop-up began around 3 p.m.

Fairfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Luckenbach said the fire is believed to have started while a contractor was engaged in weed abatement behind the treatment plant.

There were many homes in the area but none were damaged, Spears said.
