A 73-year-old who seems to have disappeared without a trace may be behind a get rich scam that bilked thousands of customers out of millions of dollars.

John Nelson Beck is facing a $113 million judgment from the Federal Trade Commission. Beck has been fighting the judgment for four years.

Beck disappeared earlier this week in Oakland and his family believes he may have boarded a BART train minutes after he was last seen.

"My mom dropped him off. He was going to a court meeting with his lawyer and he never showed up to the meeting," daughter Laura Beck said. "He's 73, I'm concerned about age and something could have happened. His memory got a little worse. I'm concerned he wandered off."

Beck was last seen in the 1300 block of Clay Street, near the Oakland City Center, at around 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.

According to Beck's family, new information from police suggests BART security cameras show Beck boarding a Millbrae-bound train at 9:06 a.m. at the 12th Street Station.

"My father has never gone missing in his life and is not the sort of person to worry us unnecessarily," Beck's daughter, Kate Kigudde, a diplomat with the U.S. State Department in Cyprus, said in a statement.

"Having heard that my father was seen boarding BART in Oakland, it is crucial that police can obtain footage from other stations to see where he alighted. Reports this week that 77 percent of online BART security cameras are non-functioning decoys doesn't help us in our search, but we are certain the authorities are using all technology available to find my father," Kigudde said.

Beck is the man behind "John Beck Amazing Profits," a company that produced infomercials promoting a free and clear real estate system. He is described as a white man with glasses standing 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was last seen wearing navy blue pants with green and blue plaid shirt.

Beck's family has also hired a private investigator to help find him.

Anyone with information about Beck's whereabouts is asked to call the Alameda Police Department at 510-337-8340.
