‘Unhealthy' Fast Food Chain Sonic Expands in East Bay

Fast food chain Sonic Drive-In is expanding aggressively in the East Bay.

According to San Francisco Business Times, the Oklahoma based quick service empire is eyeing "double digit growth" in California, where it currently operates 66 stores, and is looking for franchise owners for planned locations in Oakland, Fairfield, Livermore, Concord, and Pleasanton.

Projected cost to open one: about a cool $1.2 million.

Dieters beware, though: A report by 24/7 Wall Street determined that Sonic is the unhealthiest fast food restaurant in the country. That's due in part to above average levels of trans fat and the high calorie count of the average Sonic burger, which at 780 calories tops the average McDonald's burger by almost 300 calories.
