A fiery car crash on Interstate Highway 280 claimed the lives of two people and injured two more.

The California Highway Patrol said the unidentified people lost their lives when their vehicle veered off northbound Interstate Highway 280 in Millbrae, crashed and caught fire Thursday afternoon.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported at 1:20 p.m. near Millbrae Avenue, CHP Officer Kevin Kroncke said.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. The status of the other two is still unknown, CHP Officer Grace Castillo said.

An emergency helicopter was dispatched to aid the victims and several lanes of Highway 280 are blocked, according to the CHP.
