Health Warning Issued as a Result of Phillips Refinery Fire in Contra Costa County

A health advisory was issued by Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials officials as a result of a fire at Phillips 66 refinery in Rodeo,  HazMat officials said.

Chief Environmental Health and Hazardous Materials Officer Randy Sawyer said residents of Rodeo who are with respiratory sensitivities may want to stay indoors.

Officials recived the report of a flare-up at 3:13 p.m. at the Phillips 66 refinery at 1290 San Pablo Avenue, Sawyer said. When Sawyer and other officials responded to the 1-alarm fire, he said he saw smoke near the refinery, but no flame.

HazMat officials are unsure if another flare up may occur, Sawyer said.
