Fire Burns at Suspected Homeless Encampment in Vallejo

Vallejo firefighters battled a blaze at a suspected homeless encampment near a parking lot Sunday morning, Vallejo fire Cpt. Art Gonzales said.

The fire happened on the 1700 block of Broadway Street at around 9:30 a.m. When fire crews arrived, they found a fire burning in a dry grassy area where remnants of a homeless encampment appeared to be, Gonzales said.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire with the help of light rain. The blaze did not spread to nearby vehicles parked at the nearby building, according to Gonzales.

No people were at the suspected homeless encampment when fire crews arrived.
