Fire Rips Through Campbell Townhome, Residents Evacuated

Santa Clara County firefighters put out a one- fire in the second floor roof of a townhouse on Wednesday in Campbell, which may have been started by a malfunctioning heater in a waterbed, a neighbor said.

Firefighters were called at 8:44 a.m. to 1901 La Corona Court near Pollard Road, where they began evacuating the “fully engulfed” building, according to county fire spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said.

Residents were standing outside when firefighters arrived and crews observed the fire spreading horizontally on the top of the second floor residence, Stuehler said. One neighbor said the woman who lived in the townhome was moving her waterbed and thought a heater malfunctioned.

Firefighters punched a vent hole in the attic and finally doused the flames at 9:02 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
