Firefighters battled a one-alarm fire at a bakery near Lake Merritt in Oakland early Wednesday morning - the second such fire in 2006.
The fire was reported about 2:45 a.m. the Merritt Restaurant and Bakery, at 203 E. 18th St., near Athol Plaza, fire officials said. It was brought under control about an hour later.
The Oakland Tribune reported that the landmark bakery was closed in 2006 for a two-alarm blaze.
