Former Child Psychiatrist William Ayres Dies in Prison

A former child psychiatrist serving time in prison for sexually abusing his young patients has died.

Dr. William Ayres, 84, of San Mateo, died of natural causes April 20 at California Medical Facility in Vacaville, according to the Solano County Coroner's Office.

In 2013, after a long, contentious investigation and court battle that included determining Ayres' ability to defend himself, the once-prominent psychiatrist pleaded no contest to eight felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under age 14.
