Former President of Peru Arrested in Menlo Park on Drunk in Public Charge

A former president of Peru was arrested Sunday in Menlo Park, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Alejandro Toledo, who served as Peru's president from 2001 to 2006, was booked on charges of being drunk in public at a restaurant, police said.

Peru wants Toledo back but for the wrong reasons. He's accused of taking $20 million in bribe money while he was in office.

Toledo says he's innocent.

The sheriff's office released Toledo Monday morning and said the charges in Peru do not carry over to the United States.
