Former South Bay County Employee Charged with Misspending Welfare Money

A former Santa Clara County Social Services employee has been charged with misspending more than $2,000 in welfare money, according to a Santa Clara County press release.

A former Santa Clara County Social Services employee has been charged with misspending more than $2,000 in welfare money, according to the District Attorney.

Cecilia Jenrick, 49, of Pleasanton, was charged with funneling money from the accounts of four victims including three elderly immigrants and one seriously ill person, according to prosecutors, who issued a statement on Monday.

The victims reported their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards were not working between June and August 2011, when the Social Services Agency's Investigations Unit launched an investigation to look into the matter.

Prosecutors said the investigation showed that Jenrick issued EBT cards to herself and then withdrew funds from her account.
