Four Kayakers Rescued From Mud on Bay in Marin County

Four kayakers in Marin County were rescued Sunday after their boats got stuck in the mud, according to the Tiburon Fire District.

Rescue crews from the Tiburon and the Southern Marin fire districts responded to the end of Barbaree Way in Tiburon at about 3 p.m. on a report of two adults and two children stranded in Richardson Bay.

The kayakers became stuck after the tide went out before they were able to make it back to shore, Tiburon fire Battalion Chief Steven Ardigo said. He said the children were ages 7 and 8.

Ardigo estimated one kayak was about 500 yards off shore and the other one was about 200 yards out. Firefighters walked out with paddle boards and used them to walk the people back to shore, he said.

The four people were cold and muddy but uninjured after their ordeal, Ardigo said. He was not certain how long the people had been stranded before fire crews arrived.
