Fremont Church Offers Drive-Thru Prayers

A Bay Area church is offering a unique prayer service for those short on time, but in need of a spiritual moment.

Holy Spirit Church in Fremont, California, started offering drive-thru prayer on Monday night.

"We are living in a time when people don't have a lot of time on the go, so we wanted to provide something like drive-thru food, drive-thru coffee -- why not drive-thru God?" said Mathew Vellankal, who serves as the church pastor. "God on the go."

Vellankal wasn't sure if anyone would make prayer part of their evening commute, but in an hour 25 people rolled through to the church. Volunteers helped promote the drive-thru prayers by holding up signs in nearby streets.

Ken Gomez was one of the visitors who stopped by on his bike. He asked for a prayer for his children.

"I think it's quick, it's something everyone needs to have," Gomez said. "Glad to be here experiencing it right now."

Vellankal said it was an emotional debut.

Drive thru prayer will be offered from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Holy Spirit Church is located at 37588 Fremont Boulevard in Fremont.
